Hi, this is Jesse from StartCopywriting.com and in this episode we’re going to talk about 6 Copywriting Tips for Beginners that anyone can use to become a better copywriter.
Tip #1: Write Lots Of Headlines
Now, you’re probably only going to use only one headline in the copy you’re writing but write lots and lots of headlines because your headline is the most important element, the most important piece of copy in your entire ad. If it doesn’t grab people’s attention and get them interested, they’re not going to read the rest of your copy. So, write lots of headlines until one really stands out to you and really grabs your interest and that will be the one you use. I’ll give you a simple template for writing killer headlines. One I’ve used over the years and that is:How To [Benefit] Even If [Obstacle]
Now all you need to do with whatever copy you’re writing is to insert the benefit where it says benefit and the obstacle which is whatever obstacle your readers are going through into a headline. For example, it might be:How To Buy A House Without A Bank Loan
Tip #2: Understand Your Reader And Understand Your Audience
You really shouldn’t sit down to write copy unless you first intimately understand your reader. And you want to know things like:- What keeps them up at night?
- What are their problems?
- What do they really want but they’re not getting?
- How you can help them?
Tip #3: Make Specific Claims
Sometimes people make big claims that are not very specific on the details, and therefore their claims are not believable. So in any claims you make, you want to be specific in your claim. By doing it this way, it’s going to make people believe more in your claims. Copywriting in a nutshell is making claims and then proving that those claims are true. An easy way to do that is by:- Using numbers
- Using statistics
“How To Lose Weight With This New Program” [BAD]
“New Program Guarantees You’ll Lose 7 Kilos In 7 Weeks” [GOOD]
Tip #4: Use Proof And Evidence In Your Copy
There is so much mistrust in the world due to advertising overload that we don’t stop and switch off. We often don’t believe much of what we’re reading. What you might want to do in your copywriting is to backup your claims with proof. Now, there’s so many ways you can use proof and one of them is called Credibility Indicators. Some of those might be:- Testimonials
- Case studies
- Photos that demonstrates your product in action
- Statistics
- And any qualifications or achievements
Tip #5: Tell Your Readers Where To Go!
Now, I’m not being rude. But what I mean by that is to tell readers exactly what you’d like them to do next. Too many times in copy is that they have no call to action, have very basic call for action or it has too many options. If there are too many calls to action, the end result is that people wouldn’t know where to go! What you want to do is to make it clear, make it obvious and tell them precisely what you want them to do. You can also tell them when they should order, when to buy, when to register or whatever it is that you want them to do.Tip #6: Add Scarcity / Urgency In Your Copy
My final tips is by adding scarcity or add a sense of urgency in your copy. Basically, telling them what will happen if they don’t take action, or how they will lose, and how their life wouldn’t stay the same without it. You may use scarcity and urgency when:- It’s a limited time offer
- It’s a special discount for a limited time
- You may only have a certain number of seats in a seminar
- You may have a limited amount of stock that you’re selling
