And in this article, I’m going to share 10 little-known websites that pay writers from $200 to $3,000 per article.

We will be exploring websites in many different niches, including business and finance, travel, sports, short stories and poems, and health and lifestyle.

And I’ll be giving you links to each website so you can apply to write for them.

The first two website’s we’re going to look at are in the business niche. 

IncomeDiary is a site that focuses on Internet marketing, building websites, and driving traffic. The audience is mostly entrepreneurs and business enthusiasts looking for actionable strategies for growing their online businesses. Income Diary typically pays writers $200 per published post.

Another website in the business niche is FreelanceMom.com, a website that publishes articles, stories, and case studies about parenting, freelancing, and entrepreneurship. And they pay writers up to $100 for each article they publish.

Another profitable niche to consider is the travel industry. This industry is coming back to life after being closed down for the last few years. Now there’s a high demand for travel content, offering writers the opportunity to earn through blogs, guides, and travel stories.

Afar.com is a magazine with a mission to inspire travelers who want to interact with locals and explore new cultures abroad. They are looking for ambassadors to create engaging travel content and they pay between $450 and $800 per accepted article.

AlaskaMagazine.com is focused on all things Alaska. Their website is full of travel stories, product reviews, and trip recommendations. They pay freelance writers $700 per post.

The sports writing niche is more than just game coverage; it includes health, psychology, and culture. With a demand for compelling content, freelance writers can find lucrative opportunities on sports websites, magazines, and blogs.

GraysSportingJournal.com is an online publication that’s perfect for writers who can describe the sporting experience, whether it’s fishing, hunting, or wildlife conservation. They pay writers up to a whopping $1,250 per feature article that is published.

SportingClassics.com is ideal for those who can capture the essence of hunting, fishing, and conservation. They pay freelance writers up to $700 per post that is published.

You can do interesting things when you write creatively, especially when you write short stories and poems. Literature platforms and contests are always looking for new writers, so it is a niche where freelance writers can potentially make money.

If you can write interesting science fiction stories, Asimov’s Science Fiction is the place for you. Also, the pay is pretty good. For each story they print, they pay writers up to $1,600.

The sci-fi and fantasy magazine Clarkes World Magazine puts out short stories, interviews, and articles. They are currently looking for nonfiction and short stories to publish, and they will pay writers up to $1,380 per submission that is accepted and published.

The health and lifestyle sector is a thriving industry, encompassing fitness, nutrition, and mental well-being. Businesses and blogs in this field are always looking for writers to produce interesting and useful content. This gives writers a wide range of ways to make money from their skills.

The EatingWell website is great for people who love food and want to live a healthier lifestyle. They are offering incredible rates of up to $350 per article they publish.

Belt Magazine is an online publication that writes about the Midwest of the United States. They publish long stories and personal essays about the Rust Belt and the Great Lakes Region. They pay writers up to $300 per article published on their website.

A compelling above-the-fold section includes specific elements that lay the groundwork for engagement.

Headline & Sub-headline

These succinctly communicate the website’s purpose, targeting clarity over ambiguity. Effective formulas direct your message toward the visitor’s needs and expectations.

  • Crafting a compelling headline involves focusing on the core offering while targeting the intended audience. The key is to be clear, concise, and directly address what the website provides. For instance, “Get Fit Now: Online Personal Training for Busy Professionals” instantly conveys the service and its target audience.

  • The sub-headline expands on the headline by delving into the problems solved and the benefits provided. It’s an opportunity to elucidate the unique value proposition of the service or product, such as “Transform your fitness routine from the comfort of your home and achieve your health goals with tailored programs for your busy schedule.”

Here is an example of a sub-headline from Trello.com.

Crafting a Compelling Call-to-Action

The call-to-action (CTA) buttons prompt visitors to take action. Effective CTA copy should be action-oriented and explicitly convey what happens upon clicking. Ambiguity in CTAs can hinder engagement.
